CITIZENS’ PETITION: TREATY FOR THE RIGHTS OF WOMEN
Dear Senator McCain,
We urge you to support U.S. ratification of the UN Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), also known as the Treaty for the Rights of Women. CEDAW is the only comprehensive international treaty addressing women’s rights, and establishes standards for the protection of women’s rights in social, economic, political, and legal contexts. By acceding to the treaty, the United States will strengthen our efforts to advance the status of women around the world, help reduce violence against women, and promote access to education, health care and political participation. We urge you to actively support ratification of CEDAW and, by so doing, help improve the lives of women worldwide.
