Professor Obiora looks at demonstrated Nigerian resistance to oil exploitation without sustainable economic development, and the devastating environmental and social effects on local Ogoni people who do not share the prosperous benefits accrued to Nigeria as a whole. Militant activity has been but one response to the Lagos - based government’s historic contracting with foreign oil producers in the Niger River Delta.
